Writing is a great way to make money from home and I have been doing it for quite a few years. As a writer yourself, you may be wondering if you can make a decent living doing what you enjoy. I’m here to tell you, yes you can! You absolutely can make a decent living using freelance writing as your job, but there are a few things to know before you get started. Take a look at a few tips I would like to share with you as you begin your freelance writing career.
Don’t quit your day-job yet
When you begin your career in freelance writing, it’s a good idea to make sure that you do not quit your main source of income to begin with. This allows you to build up your writing clients before you lose your main source of income. You can earn a good living freelance writing but it can take some time to build your clientele.
Watch for red-flags
When I first started freelance writing, I saw a lot of advertisements for sites that wanted me to pay them for their job leads. Some of them wanted me to pay for their services and this is typically a red flag to many. If you have to pay for their service it’s not a job, it’s a business. Be sure you research the site and who you’re considering before you pay anyone.
Use Job Boards and Craigslist
Consider using job boards and even Craigslist to find leads for your writing career. There are tons of content sites as well to get you started. You can easily find a variety of clients if you have experience in writing that will pay well. As a freelance writer, you’ll find having several clients to work for is best to make sure you earn what you’re after.
Be sure you can trust your potential client
When you’re writing it is best to see if the client will pay for some of the work upfront or even if they will do one assignment and pay you then. This builds a rapport between you and the client to make sure you feel confident in sending in your work. You do not want to write for someone and then not earn the money you are deserved.
If you’re considering becoming a freelance writer, know that you can make a decent living at it. Be sure to remember that it may take some time to build your clientele and to also earn what you’re after, but it is possible. Take a look at me! I’m loving my job and making a living doing it!
